Hollywood icon and beloved actor Brad Pitt is always dressed sharply in a
suit on the red carpet, many fans may overlook the actor's numerous tattoos.
They primarily protect his upper arms, legs, and back. Brad doesn't show off
his tattoo collection all that often, but the audience has seen a few of
them over the years. The actor recently wore a skirt to a red carpet event,
exposing even more of his tattoos.
Many people would only get a tattoo if it meant something special to them, but because Pitt is so private about his collection, we may never know why he got each piece of body ink. Some are fairly easy to decipher, while others may not have a meaning at all and may simply be scribbles that the actor thought looked cool. Let's look at Brad Pitt's tattoos and the meanings behind most of them together.
RIGHT FOREARM TATTOO
A tattoo of a skinny cross and a few letters is visible here. The meaning
of this one is clear and can be deduced by fans. The letters stand for
Angelina, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne's initials: A
for Angelina, M for Maddox, P for Pax, Z for Zahara, S for Shiloh, K for
Knox, and V for Vivienne. The letters are arranged in chronological order
according to the children's birthdates.
According to some sources, in late 2019, he covered up the letter "A" and
replaced it with a drawing of a star.
LEFT INNER FOREARM TATTOO
Brad is tattooed with the image of Tzi the Iceman, an ancient man whose
mummy was discovered in Europe in 1991. According to legend, Tzi was a man
who lived around 5000 years ago, climbed a mountain, and died.
He is the oldest natural mummy on the continent. Many people are
fascinated by Tzi because he is older than the Egyptian pyramids and can
be used in a variety of scientific studies because he was never buried and
his mummy was naturally preserved by chance.
MORE INNER LEFT FOREARM TATTOO
Brad has a tattoo in French that says "Absurdites de l'existence," which
translates as "absurdities of existence," and it could be a reference to the
foreword to the book about the articles created by journalist Daniel
Pearl.
"I wish you a pleasant journey through Danny's writings," his wife
concluded the letter. It is my sincere hope that the spirit and values he
instilled in all of you will continue to shine. I hope, like me, you can
laugh along with Danny as he guides you through life's absurdities."
Tzi has another tattoo on his left side that he talked about in an
interview. It is dedicated to the wildlife of the Ozark Mountains, where he
grew up. "When it comes to trees, I'm quite reverent," he explained. "I had
the height of the tallest sequoia, 94.9 m (311.4 ft), tattooed on my
forearm."
His tattoo reads "invictus," which is most likely a reference to British
poet William Ernest Henley's poem of the same name, the central theme of
which is bravery and overcoming adversity in one's life.
RIGHT BICEP TATTOO
On his right bicep, Pitt has two tattoos. He has a tattoo of Rumi's poem
from the 13th century that says, "There exists a field, beyond all notions
of right and wrong," and he says, "I'll see you there."
Some believe Brad got this tattoo before his wedding to Angelina Jolie,
while others believe it is related to the actor's passion for social
justice work.
The second tattoo, a drawing of a man next to the poem, appeared around
2019. People have speculated on its meaning, including a reference to
Benjamin Button, but only Brad Pitt knows the true meaning. It appears to
be a man staring at his own reflection.
LEFT BICEP TATTOO
Brad Pitt got a motorcycle tattoo a few years ago, around 2017. Brad is a
huge motorcycle fan who owns over 20 different models, so the tattoo
represents his love of the vehicles.
LEG TATTOO
On the spur of the moment, Brad decided to wear a skirt to the premiere
of the film Bullet Train. As a result of that decision, the audience can
see more of Brad Pitt's tattoos.
One of them has a rhinoceros drawing on his right leg and a human skull
drawing on his left leg. On the back of his right leg, he most likely has
an octopus tattoo. The remaining designs are trickier to spot.
BACK TATTOO
The actor displayed a slew of new tattoos to the audience during his
first interview following his divorce from Angelina Jolie. Some of them
appear to be tattooed on his heavily inked back. Brad Pitt appears to have
a hurricane tattoo on the left side of his back.
Above it, he has a Bob Dylan lyric tattooed that reads, "We live, we die,
we don't know why, but I'll be with you," which some believe was inspired
by Angelina Jolie's handwriting.
A few lines can be seen on the right side of his back. It was Angelina
Jolie's design from back in 2010. In an interview, she stated that she was
bored one night and began drawing lines on his back.
In her words, the scribbles lined up "beautifully" and enhanced the part
of Brad's body that she liked. She claimed it was just a sketch, but he
liked it so much that he turned it into a permanent tattoo.
STOMACH TATTOO
Another tattoo he got for Angelina Jolie, his then-wife, is on his stomach.
We can see the letters that spell "ANG," and Brad has Angelina's birthdate
right next to it in other photos.
Brad Pitt conceals his tattoo collection so well that even die-hard fans
may be surprised. Several of his designs appear to be matching Angelina
tattoos. Angelina Jolie's and Brad Pitt's backs, for example, are both
tattooed.
They got some of the tattoos in Thailand together, and the tattoo artist
claims he designed a Buddhist symbol, which he inked on Brad's lower stomach
near the hurricane tattoo. The designs were meant to tie them together as
husband and wife, but they divorced in 2016.
Brad Pitt himself spoke briefly about getting matching tattoos with his
ex-wife back in 2008. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, he responded
to a fan's question about his tattoos. He said getting tattoos is "a great
thing to do together with a partner" because "it becomes personal and
special in its own right," but he declined to answer any further questions
about it, preferring to keep things private.
In movies, he frequently conceals his tattoos. As seen in the screenshot
above, a couple of well-known tattoos are missing, such as the poem on his
bicep. Real tattoos are commonly concealed in Hollywood. It is done by first
applying orange concealer to neutralize the color of the tattoo, followed by
more makeup to make it look like the actor's skin color.
The total number of illustrations and scripts on the actor's skin is
unknown, and this list is likely incomplete. Not only that, but his tattoo
collection appears to be expanding all the time — his first tattoo was
discovered in 2006, and his most recent was discovered in 2022 while he was
wearing a skirt.
Let's hope that we'll learn more about his tattoo collection and the
special meanings each of the designs on his skin has for him in the
future.

tattoos?
