Paul Walker, the Fast and Furious franchise's star, died in 2013, shocking the entire world. But his death had a profound impact on one person: Vin Diesel, the late actor's longtime friend and co-star, who was like a brother to him. Even after all these years, Vin has never forgotten his true friend, who holds a special place in his heart.
BEST FRIENDS BOTH ON-SCREEN AND IN REAL LIFE.
Paul Walker and Vin Diesel first shared the screen in The Fast and the Furious, where Walker portrayed Brian O'Conner and Diesel portrayed gang leader Dominic Toretto. Along with the emotional bond formed by the characters in the film, the two actors developed an off-screen friendship that transcended time and space.
At the start of the franchise, they formed a genuine friendship that lasted nearly 15 years and lasted throughout the production of the films from 2001 to 2013. In fact, Diesel is the godfather of his late friend's late friend's daughter Meadow Walker, demonstrating that their incredible bond goes beyond a simple co-star relationship.
"When we first started doing this, we thought we'd just do a classic car movie and call it a day," Diesel recalled. Instead, he admitted that he was unsure whether the strategy was to make "alternatively, 7, 8, 9, and 10." When asked about this further, Diesel recalled a promise they had made to one another, saying, "We would take this franchise and end it at Fast 10."
THE TRAGIC INCIDENT.
Walker announced on November 30, 2013, via Twitter that the sixth installment of the beloved film series would be released soon. Walker, on the other hand, was tragically killed in a car accident a few hours later.
Walker was a well-known philanthropist who was attending a charitable event on that particular day. Walker was obsessed with fast cars, just like the character he had played. Walker and his friend, Roger Rodas, held the charity event the same day at their high-performance car shop.
Walker was a passenger in the vehicle as they drove away from the gathering, and the driver abruptly lost control of the vehicle only a few hundred yards away. Those in attendance rushed to help, but they were powerless. Walker's friends were powerless as word of the tragedy spread quickly through the media. Within hours of Walker's death, fans all over the world were shocked.
VIN DIESEL NEVER STOPS THINKING ABOUT HIS BEST FRIEND.
Vin Diesel and Paul Walker were close friends, and Diesel was devastated when the actor died. The death of his best friend tore him apart. However, the actor has always tried to honor Walker's memory by talking about their special relationship. During some interviews, he would even cry in front of the camera.
The actor also discussed meeting Walker's mother the day after the fatal car crash. Walker admitted that his mother's response, in which she expressed regret, surprised him. "I asked, 'Why? Why are you apologizing to me?' She explained, 'Because you lost your other half."
Vin Diesel struggled to accept that his beloved confidant had mysteriously vanished, leaving them unable to rely on or watch out for one another. Walker was a huge source of comfort for him, especially when he helped Diesel reestablish contact with his mother. "You spend 15 years progressing from nobody to somebody with a brother." And then one day he's gone, which is a very difficult experience."
Because Fast and Furious 7 was still in the works, Diesel had not even had time to mourn his friend's death. After Walker died, Diesel was forced to play the role of his friend while the film was being shot. "I've been acting my entire life, and they don't teach you how to mourn someone while pretending they're in a scene with you," he explained.
THE EXTRAORDINARY BOND THAT EXISTS BETWEEN THEIR FAMILIES.
The bond between Walker and Diesel is unbreakable, and despite Walker's death, Diesel has remained close to his family, giving them a sense of their late father's presence. Diesel also named his second daughter Pauline in honor of his late friend.
Both the Diesel and Walker families spend a lot of time together, and a special bond between their daughters demonstrates how friendship can cross all boundaries. Diesel was especially close to Meadow, his goddaughter, whom he described as "taking good care" of him.
"On Father's Day, she's the first person to wish me Happy Father's Day," Diesel said. "Seeing her with my kids is one of the most beautiful things," she says. "When I see her playing with Pauline, it hits me so hard because I can only imagine what my brother sees."
One of the most meaningful tributes Diesel paid to his late friend was walking his daughter Meadow down the aisle. This single act moved everyone because it demonstrated the actor's love for Walker while also fulfilling a duty that the late father would have had to fulfill if he were still alive.
"Blessings always follow tragedies," Diesel wrote on Instagram. "Look at this picture, Pablo; it will make you happy. The same angel who precious Meadow asked to be her maid of honor is the same angel you helped me prepare for in the most beautiful way with your brotherly advice."
